A 1st alarm was dispatched at 12:28 this afternoon for a commercial structure fire on the 500 block of 5th Ave in Patton Borough. Sending Rescue 60 with the Rapid Intervention Team and Truck 60 as the 2nd due truck, assisting Station 62. On scene firefighters encountered a fire in a mechanic shop on the ground floor rapidly extending to the upper floors all being driven by high winds. Truck 60 was assigned to the rear of the building and worked feverishly to open up the building ahead of the engine crews. A brief glitch shut down the municipal water system for a short time in the middle of the event, Engine 60 was added to the alarm at this time and Rescue 60 was pressed into service as a back up water supply by establishing a draft from a nearby stream. Command utilized 5-Engines, 4-Trucks a Heavy Rescue and a number of utility vehicles to bring the stubborn fire under control. Thanks to the Glendale Fire Company for covering District 60 while we worked this alarm. Doin’ What We Do “60 Pride”
