By Deputy Chief Mark Malloy
August 25, 2025

A first alarm was dispatched 17:37 hrs
for a structure fire on the 2300 block of Gallitzin/Coupon Rd, Gallitzin Twp District 71.
Rescue, Truck and Engine 60 all responded on the alarm with a total of 18 firefighters
The building was originally part of the former Forest Zoo complex and had been converted to a cattle barn by the current owners.
On scene firefighters encountered a well involved structure that sat several hundred feet from the roadway, that had just been stocked with hay bales.
Truck 60 setup for master stream operations along with Engine 71, as Rescue and Engine 60 combined on a 1,800’ water relay from a neighboring dam, supplemented by a tanker shuttle to ensure steady water supply throughout the 5 hour incident.
All the animal’s are safe.
Thank you to Glendale Eng 28 for covering district 60 for nearly 6 hours, answering 1 emergency call during that time.
Also Thanks to Lou Who’s Pizza of Patton for sending food to the station!
